This patient has was highly gluten intolerant, but she had no idea she was as she had no obvious gut discomfort. When you are gluten intolerant and have gluten in your diet it can lead to immune dysregulation and is associated with an increased risk Autoimmune Thyroid Hashimoto’s disease. For decades this patients thyroid autoimmune antibodies had been significantly raised.

After removing gluten from her diet, we re-tested her thyroid antibodies. They have decreased dramatically by 640% and are now almost within a normal range for the first time in decades.

Impact on her Family

Because of her double mutation, all her children will be gluten intolerant and her grandchildren are also at risk of being gluten intolerant. She has been encouraged to speak to her children about having a genetic test and getting screened for gluten intolerance.
